FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Q: Is Gamazine better than paint?
- A:
Gamazine is a plaster like product that is applied with trowels and produces a textured durable finish, it is generally more expensive than traditional paint. Although it is touted as being maintenance free the textured surface make sit prone to collecting dust and dirt and being textured make sit more difficult to wipe clean when compared to a traditional paint finish. It can be painted over should one grow tired of the original colour but once again the textured nature of teh product means that more paint will be required than would be the case when painting a smooth flat surface. Gamazine is also more difficult to patch should it become damaged as the whole wall will need to be redone due to it being a plaster like product, this can also require additional prep work if the original Gamazine surface needs to be removed or smoothed out before applying the new surface. Coating Worx does not apply Gamazine, instead we work with top quality paints from leading suppliers such as Dulux and Plascon.
- Q: How much does it cost to paint a house in South Africa in 2024?
- A:
It is impossible to provide an accurate answer as it depends on a number of factors. The size of the house is obviously a determinging factor, as is the state of the surfaces to be painted as this will influence how much time needs to be spent on properly prepping the surfaces prior to applying the finishing coats of paint. The choice of paint used to paint the hoiuse also impacts the cost as paint costs vary dpending on the quality of paint used. Finally, the type of access required is a determining factor, a double story house requires more ladder work or may require scaffolding which takes longer to setup and work from than working at ground level. If the project entails both interior and exterior painting then this will cost more than a project entailing either interior or exterior painting. - Q: What are popular colours to paint a house in South Africa in 2024?
- A:
Unless ones house is located within a sectional title complex there are no laws governing what colour one can paint their house and the choice of colour used to paint a property is very much a matter of personal choice. The architectural style of a house also has some bearing on which colours will best suit it, whether you want your house to stand out from or blend into the surrounding environment is also a consideration. Colour trends come and go but their are colour ranges such as biege, off whites and greys that remain popular irrespective of prevailing trends. Grey tones are currently quite a popular choice for house exteriors. It is not just the colour of the walls that needs to be decided, doors, window frames, fascia boards, gutters and downpipes all need to be considered and a range of colours selected that all work well together. Our growing project portfolio displays a gallery of images of houses and properties painted in various colour schemes. The DULUX Visualizer App is also a good way to assist with choosing colours.
